The National Leasehold Campaign (NLC) has been set up to campaign for the abolition of residential leasehold in England and Wales.
We want to see a complete ban on new leasehold houses, the adoption of commonhold for new flats and apartments, as well as full and proper redress for the millions of people currently trapped in leasehold properties. We believe that all houses should be freehold and all flats/apartments commonhold.
The NLC was started as a Facebook group by Katie Kendrick in January 2017, when she first became aware of the leasehold scandal. In three years the Group has gained 19,300 members and has been hugely influential in raising awareness of the ‘National Leasehold Scandal’ Members of the Group have featured in numerous national and local press and been interviewed on national and local TV and radio stations (Join us on U Tube) . The Group encourages direct action and has held a number of demonstrations, as well as leafleting new developments.
The NLC works closely with Leasehold Knowledge Partnership (LKP) a charity that provides support for leaseholders that is run and managed by leasehold experts, Sebastian O’Kelly and Martin Boyd. LKP are the Secretariat for the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Leasehold and Commonhold Reform. Members of the NLC campaign have been meeting with their local MPs and asking them to join this APPG. It is now one of the largest APPGs in Parliament (166 MP’s) and has been instrumental in calling for leasehold reform. Is your MP a member of the APPG?
The day to day running of the Group and its strategy and plans are managed by Katie Kendrick, Jo Darbyshire and Cath Williams who are supported by our moderators Joy, Shira, Jay, Harry & Simon.
